Trolled !

Well I have been online trolled! I have found all my lovely followers to have been the kindest and most polite and honest people, all 510 of you lovelies, and then there was one.

At first I wasn’t sure if this person was just being funny, witty etc.. but the comments went from dark to insulting and then just mean.

This troll hides behind what I believe to be a fake name, with no picture etc..  After a little easy digging around online, I found out where they live, who their sister is, I saw pictures of their family etc.. yet the troll keeps his/her anonymity, hiding behind a keyboard, invisible.  Would you call this troll a coward? or crying out for attention? or perhaps in desperate need of help? lonely? or just plain mean.

The troll liked to berate me, but then compliment how fabulous and fantastic they are, the troll says that he/she is happy and comfortable with how he/she speaks and behaves and that I am the problem, further listing what they believe to be my many faults, which is very interesting, given they have never met me!

I tried to reason with the troll and asked he/she why they were was calling me names, which only caused further name calling, this is a cycle that I wanted to bring to a conclusion, so I have had to, unfortunately, block the troll.  It is the first time I have had to do this, what a shame.

I have removed all of the comments by the troll, as I feel that the troll needs help, I don’t want the troll to be trolled, the cycle has to stop.

Wikipedia definition of a troll

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who starts quarrels or upsets people on the Internet to distract and sow discord by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses and normalizing tangential discussion, whether for the troll’s amusement or a specific gain.

Have any of you lovelies been trolled? how did you react and deal with it? I hope I have dealt with it appropriately.

Happy Days and blessings to you all.

  1. That sounds very unpleasant! As a fellow blogger, I’m sorry this happened to you. It does happen, and that’s too bad.

I personally leave my troll comments intact. On WordPress, you can’t delete your own comments, so it leaves a trail of evidence– in case it ever escalates, and I have to contact the WP admins.

But deleting them and forgetting sound nice, too! People need to get a life!

  2. As Silk Cords said, it’s best to shut them down early.
I have not had it on WordPress, but years ago I had a start of an isdue on a different blog I used to write elsewhere. But after digging, I quickly found out through his i.p. address and I think he used same email, that is was the same person I knew elsrwhere when I used to do my own deaf and hard of hearing forum.
I posted a post to warn how I knew who it was and how I was shocked to discover this person could stoop so low.
I also said how I would keep any further evidence to one side for taking it further and how this wasn’t a threat. I meant it.
He never posted anything further and I avoided any contact via another forum I knew he was on.

      1. I was so tempted to reveal the identity at the time, along with his actual comments left that I did not air. I would have done had he carried on, as well as taking the matter further. There would have been many shocked as me, discovering what he was like, hiding by anonymous identity. It was only because details matched at the forum I created and ran at the time, that it was that which caught him out.

      1. It’s probably very unnerving, esp for kids. It robs you of the ability freely communicate because every time you “open the window” so the speak someone is waiting to throw a rock at you.

      2. I imagine it’s terribly isolating..because at the end of the day, when you don’t know who it is..it could be anybody..which probably then makes kids deeply suspicious of EVERYONE.

  3. It’s so sad that there are people out there like that. I just don’t understand why people are so cruel and narcissistic. I would keep deleting the comments and ignoring them. Maybe they’ll go away. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with all that stress. 😦

  4. In answer to your question, your troll is all three, (1) a coward, (2) looking for attention, and (3) just plain mean. With relationships on Facebook, I would simply block the cretin (yep, cretin he/she is). I’ve found over my long life that persons of this caliber deserve neither attention nor response. I do not know what the procedure is on WordPress other than, perhaps, making a formal complaint. Other than that, perhaps I can indulge in one of my favorite curses (suitably adapted), “May a thousand biting ants infest the fetid crotch of the troll, who finds his can of ant spray empty.”

  5. Sorry to hear you’ve been trolled. I often wonder if the ones that do this maybe feel empowered hiding behind a keyboard but in a world that has quite a lot of sadness at times. It’s makes me wonder, why be so unkind and rude to someone you don’t even know. Is it their warped sense of humour and hoping for a reaction ? Who knows ? Ignore and continue doing your great work and knowing that you are liked and loved by those who are important in your life. Take care 🙏🏻💖

  6. It’s very unfortunate to hear that you had to face such a troll but I guess they’re very common these days… Don’t let it bring you down. We love your content!! Your response was brilliant and shows compassion and love. Keep it up 🙂

  7. Yes, I end it immediately and give them no response. Here at WordPress you can stick them in Spam. At my other social media sites, I just block. Trolls thrive on attention. Glad you’ve taken care of yours and deleted their ugly comments. ✔️

  8. You dealt with that Troller quite well. As a matter of fact you were too nice to him. I have had a Troller once. I did not know he was a Troller until he began to make some nasty comments trying to get me to respond to him. My daughter told me that he was a Troller. This was the first time I was introduced to the word. Anyway, I immidiately blocked and unfollowed him.
